This Nigerian folk tale posits a previous sharing of earth by sun, moon and h2o until h2o visits the business firm of the lord's day. Water has warned the sunday that his retinue is too large but the lord's day argues otherwise; sun and moon grow increasingly uncomfortable every bit h2o fills the house until they are forced out on the roof, eventually into their permanent places in the sky. As told to Mr. Dayrell by the Efik-Ibibio peoples, it's a difficult concept to moving picture, a problem the creative person handles past depicting African tribesmen accordingly and skillfully dressed as sun, waning-faced moon and water. Mr. Lent's precise contours incorporate the abstraction past suggesting a dramatic reenactment, admirably stand for generalized African motifs. An original approach to a traditional belief, and seeing may be believing.

Professional person Recommendation/Review #2:

Response to Two Professional Reviews:
I agree that the usage of the unique tribesmen to depict the sun, moon, and water was a good bear upon to articulate imagery that tin can exist difficult to depict. It created a fun story to read.

Evaluation of Literacy Elements: African folktales tin be difficult because they can accept elemental objects and personify them. This resulted in illustrations that were largely sparse outside of the detailed depictions of the components mentioned in the story. This allows the focus to exist maintained on the dynamics between the elements.

Consideration of Instructional Application:
This Nigerian folktales could be a useful tool to deviate from a euro-axial approach to early childhood literature, in favor of more multicultural texts. I could besides do a unit on personification, using this texts depictions of the dominicus, moon, and world as examples.

I dearest reading folklore, such as this 1, to my students. It encourages them to recall creatively and challenge the things that they accept as fact. Information technology as well provides a first hand expect into the values of other cultures. The illustrator actually incorporated the tribal culture with the colors and the shapes in the characters. I dear how they take a tribal look to them. This would exist a cute story to share with young children. I recollect they would really like the illustrations and the story.

I loved the ending - great book! I really enjoyed reading this - only a really unproblematic, straightforward story. The illustrations are great and I particularly enjoyed the masks of the water people. I love the colors too! Five stars all the fashion!

This folktale from Eastern Nigeria tells the story of how the sun and the moon concluded up living in the sky. This was an okay book, in my opinion. It would be great for a classroom library book. I would too use this book when talking about different kinds of folktales from dissimilar places. 5/10 from me dog.
