Starting Out

The first major decision you need to make is whether you want to create a boxer or take an existing pro on an alternate journey through their career. If you choose a real-life professional, you can edit their style and appearance before starting. Either way, you'll start with limited XP and a fighter who needs to be developed.

The First Tournament

Upon starting your career you'll be placed in an amateur tournament. This shouldn't pose too much of a threat, as simply landing blows will get you a decent score in this one. As usual, combinations and keeping your guard up provide the route to success.

My Career

Once the first tournament is out of the way you'll make the jump onto the rankings ladder. Starting as amateur, your results will determine whether you reach the stature of the "Greatest of All Time". There's a pattern to how your career will progress, which is detailed below:

Behind every good boxer is a team of equal skill, as you also take on the role of coach throughout. When scheduling a fight, make sure you have enough time to train the skills you want to improve, and to get your stamina fully charged. Every fighter is different, and your opponents will possess a variety of different skill sets. Pick a fight that suits your skills, and if you're confident in your ability to beat a potential opponent, choose someone else. The quickest progress will be made by beating tougher foes, so there's a balancing act between risk and reward. In the early stages, not many fighters will offer too much of a threat, so it's best to climb up the rankings as quickly as possible with a few wins.

After a fight has been scheduled, you'll enter a critical training period. This is where you build up key statistics for the upcoming showdown, and for the rest of your career. It's a good idea to establish what kind of boxer you want to build early on, as there's no point overworking the heavy bag if you're looking to have speed as your highest attribute. You'll never max out all of your boxer's stats, so picking a route and sticking to it is the most effective way of creating a fighter with specialist ability.

Of course, all of your boxer's physical progress is down to training. Wins in the ring won't get their punching power up, no matter how popular they become. A choice of gyms become available, all of which have special traits they can help improve on emphatically. As the game details, your Home Gym is a free.

It won't be long until you'll receive a number of invitations to promote boxing products. This may be by wearing gear in the ring, or by turning up to a special event. Both are simple ways of earning cash and popularity.

If you're asked to wear a certain brand's gear in the ring, it's favourable to accept. Money will fall into your pocket just by showing up in their apparel. To change into their gear, just click "Edit Boxer" when asked if you're willing to do so.

When accepting an invite to an event, make sure you have enough room on your calendar, as not showing up once you've agreed will leave the sponsor hugely dissatisfied.

If you impress the current champion, he may invite you along to his training camp. This is a great way of testing yourself against the best, and seeing what you need to improve on. Be sure not to accept his invite and leave him in the ring alone though, as this'll only irritate your promoters.
